What is therapy?
Therapy is also known as psychotherapy or counselling. It involves meeting regularly to talk.
You do most of the talking and I listen and do my best to understand you. Sometimes I ask questions or make observations about the things you are saying.
There is no limit to the kinds of things you might bring to talk about. It might be difficult to talk at first, so we take things at your pace, without judgment, to make it as safe as possible.
Together, over time, we develop an understanding of what is going on, and we work out big and small ways of improving your life.
This might involve:
- Identifying and dealing with problems
- Healing things that have been bothering you for years
- Preparing for future challenges
- Coping with crises
- Improving relationships
- Learning about yourself
- Giving yourself space to think
- And more…
According to research evidence people generally feel better through having therapy.
