What is therapy?
Therapy is also known as psychotherapy or counselling. It involves meeting regularly to talk.
You do most of the talking and I listen and do my best to understand and support you. Sometimes I ask questions or make observations about the things you are saying.
There is no limit to the kinds of things you might bring to talk about. We take things at your pace, without judgment, to make it as safe as possible.
Together, over time, we develop an understanding of what is going on, and we work out ways of improving your life.
This might involve:
- Alleviating distress
- Coping with crises
- Giving yourself space to think
- Healing from things that have been bothering you for years
- Identifying and dealing with problems
- Improving relationships
- Learning about yourself
- Making and acting on plans
- Preparing for future challenges
- Recovering from trauma
- Understanding things
- And more…
According to research evidence people generally feel better through having therapy.
