Women Against Violent Language |
Position Statement
WAVL is a non-profit women's organisation made up of women who come from all walks of life and fully represent the Women's Community. WAVL believes that violent language is equivalent to physical violence and therefore rape. WAVL deplores this aggression against women and are fighting back against the use of such language, which is invariably patriarchal in origin, wherever it occurs. There are a disproportionate number of violent words that pertain to women's lives compared to men, and WAVL would like to see this balance redressed. For example, "twat" and "cunt" could be replaced with "prick" and "patty" (short for "patriarchal"). |
